Bath Cycling Club
Applicant: Bath Cycling Club
Grant Awarded: £3120.00
The Bath Cycling Club wanted to train more coaches enabling them to run taster sessions and beginner and improver courses for young people at the new Odd Down Cycle Circuit on the outskirts of the city.
Feedback from grant recipient:
The grant from the Bath Half Marathon has been key in helping to set up the new Sulis Scorpions Youth Cycling Alliance at the circuit. The alliance is a partnership between the three local cycling clubs – Bath CC, Velo Club Walcot and Somer Valley CC – together with support from Bath and North East Somerset Council and British Cycling.
The grant has been used to train volunteers from all three clubs as British Cycling qualified coaches, and to train welfare officers, purchase equipment, set up a website and promote the new club. Already more than one hundred young cyclists have taken part in British Cycling ‘Go Ride’ coaching sessions at the new circuit.
Feedback from Bath Half team:
We were delighted when Olympic cycling gold medalist Dani King visited the Odd Down Cycle Circuit this summer and said this about the project and the Bath Half Marathon Fund:
“The Bath Scorpions are our potential Olympic athletes of the future, and it’s incredible that a mass running event has had such an impact on cycling in the local community. Those who continue to donate to the Bath Half Marathon Fund should be very proud that they are providing such opportunities for groups that may otherwise not exist”.
