Wizzybug Loan Scheme

“Wizzybug has enabled Henry to find his freedom – for the first time he is able to choose where he goes, and explore the world in his own way.”

Every year, 100s of children are born with a disability which affects their ability to walk independently. Many others go on to develop a disability because of an illness that has affected their mobility.

The Wizzybug Loan Scheme was set-up by the charity Designability, based in Bath, to give children who cannot walk on their own the chance to explore, learn and play without help from others.

The scheme provides free, powered wheelchairs to children aged 14 months – 5 years. Fun, innovative Wizzybugs give children with conditions such as spinal muscular atrophy, spina bifida and cerebral palsy, the opportunity to experience their first set of wheels. They can learn vital movement skills, develop spatial awareness and gain independence as they play with their family and friends.

Run to fund a disabled child’s first taste of independence

We have already helped nearly 450 children with a Wizzybug but there are many more children out there waiting for the chance to move on their own.

Caring for a child with a disability can often have a big impact on families, not least financially, and there is generally no NHS funding available for powered mobility for under 5s.

If you run for the Wizzybug Loan Scheme, you will be helping us to continue to loan our Wizzybugs to families completely free of charge.

We love to support our fundraisers because, without you, the Wizzybug Loan Scheme would not exist.

If you join Team Wizzy, we will help to promote your support and provide you with sponsorship forms and publicity materials to drum up as much funding as you can. We will also be there to cheer you on on the day!
