Run for Mentoring Plus in the 2018 Bath Half Marathon and help transform the lives of young people, their families and communities right here in Bath & NE Somerset.
If you’re looking for a charity making a real difference to people’s lives here in this area, Mentoring Plus is the one.
Mentoring Plus trains and supports adult volunteer mentors from this community, matching them one-to-one with young people aged 7-21.
Every child and teenager needs adult support to help them feel happy and fulfil their potential. Some need more help than others: those coping with serious family issues, problems at school, or the effects of poverty.
Without this help, they may be at risk of isolation, school exclusion or offending, with all the financial, social and emotional costs this can bring for a lifetime.
How mentoring works
Mentors meet their mentees about once a week to talk, do new things, build a relationship and work through problems together. The charity supports and counsels the mentor, organises fun, confidence-building activities, and provides additional support where needed.
Mentoring is simple but very effective, and young people report they feel happier, more able to cope, and able to choose a positive route forward. The vast majority stay out of trouble and many are helped to find further education, training and employment via the project.
How your money helps
It costs about £3,000 to train and support a mentor for the year-long mentoring programme. Last year’s 30 Mentoring Plus runners raised over £15,000 between them and we aim to increase this total in 2018, ideally by having more team entries.
Your fundraising could make a direct contribution towards helping a young person fulfil their potential, keep out of trouble and contribute positively in turn.
We’re a community charity and we take proper care of our community fundraisers – especially the ones pounding the streets for 13 miles! We invest in a team marquee full of team camaraderie.
Leave your bags with us, slip on your stylish (!) Mentoring Plus T-shirt, hit the road and come back afterwards with your family for hot and cold drinks, tasty snacks and lots of congratulations. We’ll also provide you with a free sports massage to help ease those aching legs.
We ask runners to pledge the minimum £175 sponsorship, though many runners raise much more. Please let us know if you’d like help with your entry fee.
If you’d like to make a difference to your own community and run for Mentoring Plus please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01225 429694. Team entries are very welcome too.
Mentoring Plus is one of six local charities delivering the Lifestyle Change Project, funded by the 2018 BATH HALF MARATHON OFFICIAL LOCAL CHARITY APPEAL, the Action Against Child Poverty Campaign
