Bath Half 2018 Entrants Newsletter

This newsletter contains news and information about race day as well as training tips and fundraising advice.

We’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ for signing up to run with us on Sunday 4 March 2018. The Bath Half has sold out every year since 2000 and this year we were delighted that our general public entries were snapped in record time – five weeks earlier than last year!

While our general public entries make up 70% of the 15,000 runner places there is still an opportunity for anyone who would like to obtain an entry to run for one of the official race charities. If you know someone who is still hoping to secure a place, please tell them to take a look at the race charities section of our website.

With three months to go until race day we’d like to wish you well with your Bath Half training. We’ll be back in touch next month with the latest race news and some more training tips to keep you on track for a fantastic race in 2018.

All the best,

Andrew Taylor
Race Director

Getting into your training groove

We’ve pulled together some handy tips about the thing we suggest all of our 2018 runners start to think about – and that is getting yourself into a running routine. Visit our Bath Half Blog to read more about how our motley crew of runners here at Bath Half HQ approach their training.

Finding the right training plan for you

Our 2018 lead charity, Alzheimer’s Society, has some great training plans which they have developed with top running coaches at Running With Us. They have kindly shared these plans with us so that all our Bath Halfers can access them.

Supporting a Bath Half Official Charity

Every year we feel overwhelmed and humbled by the fundraising efforts of our runners, who raise the second highest amount per person for any road race in the UK, after the London Marathon. This is no mean feat in a city the size of Bath. If you are considering raising money for charity but haven’t yet decided which charity to choose, then you can see a list of all our official race charities on our website

Our lead charity this year is Alzheimer’s Society and our official local charity is Action Against Child Poverty

In this month’s newsletter we would also like to introduce our 2018 Platinum Bond Charities:
British Heart Foundation
Cancer Research UK
CLIC Sargent
Macmillan Cancer Support

Cheers, love and jelly babies at the Bath Half

If you’re new to running the Bath Half then you maybe interested in one of our recent blog posts which will tell you a little about what to expect from the Bath Half course. You can read our Bath Half blog over on our website

Good news on the course route – with the the first phase of the development works at Broad Quay nearing completion it now looks like we will be able to return to the original course route along Green Park. Final arrangements will be confirmed towards the end of January.

Become a Dementia Friend

We are really pleased to have Alzheimer’s Society on board as our Bath Half 2018 Lead Charity. The choice of Alzheimer’s Society is very much a personal one for our Race Director Andrew Taylor whose father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s four years ago.  Andrew has recently taken part in the Society’s biggest initiative – the Dementia Friends programme – which aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition.  If our Bath Half runners can play a tiny part in helping them achieve this, then we will be exceptionally proud. You can read more about how to become a Dementia Friend here

Make your Bath Half day a family day

Entries for our 2018 Bath Half Family Fun Run are selling fast. This year we have added an additional 200 entry spaces so it’s set to be the biggest fun run we’ve ever held! Participants will be invited to fundraise for the Bath Half Marathon Community Fund, with all proceeds also being ring-fenced for the local Action Against Child Poverty Campaign

The Family Fun run is open to all ages and abilities and takes place immediately after the start of the half marathon, starting and finishing under the main gantry in Great Pulteney Street. The Family Fun Run course is ¾ mile long and completely traffic free.

Battle of the Bands 2018

We are once again offering local musicians the chance to play on race day and take part in our very popular Battle of the Bands competition. For the last two years, local bands have participated in the competition adding to the excitement and entertainment around the course on the day. The winner of the competition is decided by the runners, who vote for the best bands after the race and the winning band receives a cash prize of £500. If you know a band who might be keen to sign up then do ask them to take a look at our website for more information.
