GENERAL INFORMATION :

Changes for 2017

Green Park and Kingsmead

This year due to the development works at Bath Quays we are having to divert the course route around the building site, and along the Ambury and Corn Street

  • Avon Street car park and coach park : The entrance and exit to Avon Street car park and coach park will be closed from 09.45 am to 14.00pm approx. Vehicles can remain parked in the car park and coach park during this period, but will not be able to enter or leave.
  • Kingsmead Square : In recent years we have provided a signposted diversion route for centre traffic into and out of the Kingsmead area via temporary traffic management through Dorchester Street and St James Parade. This year, as Corn Street will be closed for use by competitors, we will have to re-route our diversion route through Kingsmead Square, reversing the normal traffic flow and introducing parking suspensions through the Square.
  • The Ambury and Corn Street : These roads will be closed from 09.45 to 14.00 hrs approx, and parking suspended from 06.00 to 14.00 hrs approx.

Widcombe Parade

Between 09.45 and 15.30hrs approx, whilst the course route road closures are in place, the traffic flow on Widcombe Parade will be reversed to allow all north westbound traffic (coming towards Widcombe) down Prior Park Road and down Widcombe Hill to be diverted westbound along Widcombe Parade, along Claverton Street, and southbound up Wells Road out of the city.  Parking will also be suspended on Widcombe Parade between 06.00 and 15.30hrs approx to allow temporary stops for local bus services and to ensure no contra-traffic.

Footpath Closures

In recent years we have had to implement footpath closures at narrower sections of the course where runners spill onto the pavement, and to avoid crowd congestion in streets adjacent to the start and finish in Great Pulteney Street.  Details of these closures are included on the respective residents leaflets below.

This year we introducing an additional temporary footpath closure on Claverton Street at the junction with Pennyquick footbridge from 10.45 to 11.30hrs approx to allow safe passage for the massed runners at the beginning of the race, following the narrowing of the carriageway at this point by the recent highways alterations.

Lansdown Road parking restrictions

This year First Group have asked us to include additional parking suspensions on single yellow line sections on Lansdown Road adjacent to Julian Road from 06.00 to 15.30hrs to maintain access for park and ride buses, following the recent alterations and narrowing of the carriageway.

Otherwise arrangements for the 2017 Bath Half Marathon were unchanged from recent years.

Advance Warning and Diversion Routes

Advance warning signs will be erected on all effected streets and parking bays for 4 weeks before the event.  Leaflets will also be delivered to all residential and business properties along the course route, venue streets and access routes.

Diversion routes will be signposted to the north and south of the city.

ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE VENUE STREETS ADJACENT TO THE RACE START & FINISH IN GREAT PULTENEY STREET :

Changes for 2017

Great Pulteney Street

The course diversion in Green Park (see above) will add about 60 metres to the course distance which we will accommodate by adjusting the position of the start and finish line towards the Holburne Museum.  But relocating the start/finish line will impact further on the residents in Great Pulteney Street by extending the Saturday build and other ‘sterile area’ on the south pavement beyond Edward Street.

So this year we will be suspending all parking on the south side of the full length of Great Pulteney Street from 12.00noon Saturday 11th March until 18.30hrs on Sunday 12th March to allow construction of the start/finish on Saturday, reducing the number of noisy construction and deliveries early on Sunday morning.

Venue Streets

This year the road closures and parking suspensions in the streets adjacent to the start and finish in Great Pulteney Street will be extended by 30mins to allow more time for the dismantling and clear up after the event, and will re-open at 18.30hrs on Sunday 12th March – rather than 18.00 in previous years

Otherwise arrangements in the venue streets for the 2017 Bath Half Marathon were unchanged from recent years.

Venue Streets

Road closures, parking suspensions and footpath closures will be introduced on the streets adjacent to Great Pulteney Street :

Road closures & parking suspensions – Sunday 06.00 to 18.30hrs

Footpath closures – Sunday 08.30 to 15.30hrs

Additional parking suspensions will apply on the south side of Great Pulteney Street and both sides of William Street to allow erection of event infrastructure – Saturday from midday
