Bath Half and Alzheimer’s Society – United Against Dementia

July 24, 2017 // Rachel Ellis

We are thrilled to have Alzheimer’s Society on board as our Bath Half 2018 Lead Charity.

Every year we really look forward to working with our chosen lead charity. Not only do we love seeing their army of runners take to the course in their tens and hundreds, but we also look forward to getting to know a charity better, learning more about their work, and helping them as much as possible to promote their cause and their initiatives.

This year is no exception. Alzheimer’s Society tell us that by 2020 over 1 million people will be living with the condition in the UK and the Society’s biggest initiative – the Dementia Friends programme – aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition. If we can play a tiny part in helping them achieve this, then we will be exceptionally proud

Our choice of Alzheimer’s Society also has a personal connection to the race. The dad of our race director, Andrew, is currently living with the condition. The condition affects not only his Dad but his whole family too.

Andrew recently trained to become a Dementia Friend at a local information session. Becoming a Dementia Friend enables people to learn a little bit more about what it’s like to live with dementia and then turns that understanding into action.

Anyone of any age can be a Dementia Friend. Whether you attend a face-to-face Dementia Friends Information Session or watch their online video, Dementia Friends is about learning more about dementia and the small ways you can help.

The next information session to be held in Bath will be on 25 July. To find out more on this and other sessions, or on how to become a Dementia Friend, visit the Dementia Friends website.

If you’re looking to run the Bath Half 2018 but haven’t yet secured your place, then please consider running for our 2018 Lead Charity. Alzheimer Society charity places are available here and cost £20 with a charity place fundraising target of £250.

If you have already secured a place for the 2018 race but would still like to be part of the Alzheimer’s Society team then simply get in touch with the charity via this form.  You will receive all the same fantastic support as charity place runners, the only difference is you will not have a fundraising target. All they ask is that you raise as much as you can!

Look out on our Facebook and Twitter pages, and on our Bath Half blog for more updates, news and information about our 2018 Lead Charity.
