About Developing Heath and Independence

Developing Health and Independence (DHI) is a charity that challenges social exclusion by supporting people to achieve their potential and contribute to the richness and wellbeing of their community.

Formerly known as the Drugs and Homeless Initiative, DHI was set up in 1999 to help people out of the cycle of homelessness, social isolation and drug or alcohol abuse.  The aim of the charity is to offer people a wide range of services that help them gain control of their lives again and live independently.

One of the charities main strengths is being able to respond to its clients’ needs by offering a tailored programme from a range of practical and emotional support services.  DHI deals not only with the health and emotional well being of its clients, but also with practical issues such as housing, social isolation, and lack of basic education and employable skills.
