We are over the moon to have 75 Silver Bond places in the Bath Half Marathon 2018 and we’d love you to be part of it!

What the Bath Half Marathon means to us

Dorothy House Hospice Care has been privileged to have charity places in the Bath Half Marathon since 2002.  Over the past 16 years we’ve had 1,843 amazing runners taking part for Team Dotty.  These legendary runners have raised an absolutely phenomenal £614,000 for the charity and we are so proud of every single person who’s been part of the team.

The Bath Half Marathon is Dorothy House’s second biggest annual fundraising event and is extremely important to us. Last year we were the Local Charity, which raised a fantastic £70,000 for Dorothy House…and is our best total ever!  This money is the equivalent of 284 nine-hour shifts provided by our Hospice at Home team. These shifts provide 2,556 hours of vital care, which equates to a massive 12% of the total Hospice at Home hours of care provided by Dorothy House in 2016-17.

We are so grateful to our runners for your amazing support and what an incredible impact each and every person has had in helping us to provide vital care when it counts over the last 16 years.

Here’s some background about Dorothy House Hospice Care….

In 1976, Dorothy House was founded as an independent charity, providing palliative and end of life care to Bath and the surrounding area. That, along with our core philosophy, has not changed. 41 years later we continue to provide services to help patients, their families and carers live each day to the full, and to ensure where possible the best quality of life. Covering an area of 700 sq miles across BaNES, parts of Wiltshire and parts of Somerset,

We offer comfort, security and the chance to cherish life. We connect patients with each other, as well as with rehabilitation programmes and complementary therapies for them, their families and carers. And we’re there for them with counselling when they’ve said goodbye. Our Outreach Centres, Day Patient services, and network of hugely popular Dorothy House Charity Shops make a real difference where it matters most.

For every £1 from the NHS, we have to raise £4 and we are so grateful for the support of our community, without you we would not have been able to support over 900 patients that we do each day.

“You don’t realise how amazing this charity is till you need them, they really make the difference at a very difficult time.”

How to get involved!

We’d love to have you on board as part of the legendary Team Dotty!  We’ll provide you with all the resources you’ll need plus loads of encouragement and support.  On the day we have a marquee full of goodies, cakes, a massively warm welcome and that all important post-race massage.

Having run the race ourselves we know what you’re going through!  However, don’t just take our word for it; this is what some of our runners have said after taken part in the Bath Half Marathon:

“Thanks for such a fantastic event. It was so much better knowing I was running for such a great cause and everyone was so friendly and all the cheers helped! “

“We originally decided to run the Bath Half Marathon to raise money for Dorothy House following the sad loss of one of our colleagues to cancer. He was wonderfully cared for by their team during his illness, and we thought it would be a good way to give something back. What we hadn’t expected was the warmth and encouragement we would receive from the fundraising team as part of Team Dotty, both in the run up to the race but particularly on the day. The volunteers around the course were fantastic, but the support you receive from the crowd when running for a local charity is really humbling and I’m certain played no small part in getting us all round! We have subsequently run for Team Dotty again several times and are extremely proud to have been able to play a small part in supporting the amazing work they do.”

“I wanted to say how much I appreciated the ‘Team Dotty’ tent and post-race massage.  It was really great to be able to drop my bag off, and the post-race massage really helped recovery.”
