Postponement Announcement

We have been closely following the recent increase in COVID-19 cases across the UK and the introduction of further restrictions

Following recent discussions with Bath & North East Somerset Council, we regret to announce that that next year’s Bath Half Marathon, originally planned for 14th March 2021, will now be postponed to 5th September 2021

We understand how disappointing this postponement will be for our participants, charity partners and volunteer groups however, we have decided to make this announcement early to allow you time to make plans for 2021

We will be emailing all half marathon entrants and ballot applicants tomorrow with further details of the postponement and full details of your options for 2021

Details of our announcement

Since the government lifted restrictions on events such as the Bath Half Marathon in July we have been developing COVID-Secure plans for the delivery of next year’s race.  These flexible plans anticipate a number of different scenarios, and satisfy all published COVID guidelines for events, and have been refined following learnings from COVID-Secure trial events at Kew Gardens and Blenheim Palace, and recent research on the outdoor transmission of COVID commissioned by parkrun

In discussing our event plans with Bath & North East Somerset Council we have been advised that in the current situation, regardless of the event being permitted by government and being COVID-Secure, the public health team do not feel it is appropriate to consider a large public event in the Spring, and the council’s resources are currently stretched responding to COVID outbreaks in the community and hospitality sector. The safety of our participants, staff, volunteer groups and our local community remains our number one priority, and we always follow council advice
