Bath Half update
With just 2 weeks to go until race day we’ve been loving the warm weather and seeing more and more runners pounding the streets of Bath getting quality training and long runs under your belt before tapering ahead of the big day
We’re keeping a close eye on the weather forecast. The current weather can’t continue, and the forecast is for more stormy weather in the coming weeks, so we’re keeping everything crossed!
In the meantime we’ve got some important news to share with you about race day hydration and travel plans
All the best
| || Eliminating single use plastic at the BATHALF |
At the BATHALF we’ve always worked hard to improve the sustainability of our event
We have achieved recycling rates of 69-86% for each of the last 5 years
Now we are embracing a new challenge – to eliminate single use plastic and bottled drinks at our event by 2021
This will be a journey for all of us – our runners, our suppliers, our volunteers and contractors – as we develop new processes and products
2019 will be the first step on that journey. This year we will :
Encourage runners to bring your own reusable bottles to the event, bottles which you have used during your training for the race
Provide water refill points in the Runners Village and at all on course aid stations for runners wanting to carry and refill your own bottles
Provide compostable cupped water at the last of our three water stations, as an alternative to bottled water
Replace bottled energy drink with HIGH5 Aqua Gel at the on-course feed station and ** recovery tabs ** in the goody bags
Work with our waste management contractor to ensure effective composting of cups
Ensure certification of end use for all recycled plastic drinks bottles
We welcome your feedback and suggestions
| || HIGH5 energy feed station relocated |
This year we’re moving our HIGH5 energy feed station to a new location around the halfway point – just after the 10km mark
| || Travel update |
For race weekend travel arrangements, including trains, buses and parking, see our TRAVEL INFORMATION webpage
There will be engineering work between Bristol and Taunton on race day. For customers travelling to Bath from Bristol and Taunton it will mean a bus to Bristol Temple Meads for a train onwards to Bath. GWR are advising customers that journey times will be extended and recommending you allow extra time to get to the event
