Hello and welcome to you Bath Half race week newsletter,
Our crew and contractors are now on site at the Runners’ Village working flat out to make sure you have a brilliant race day. We can’t wait to see you all here on Sunday morning!
The most important thing that we want to say now is enjoy it! You have trained through the winter months – and we’ve watch with admiration. We love seeing so many runners in and around Bath at this time of year and we really enjoy seeing the many pictures and updates that you have posted to social media.
It can be a tough, cold, wet and windy road to get to the Bath Half, so do take a moment over these last few days to feel proud of what you’ve achieved already.
We know that many of you have been fundraising like mad too and for that we’d like to say a big, big thank you.
Every year the Bath Half runners take our breath away as they cross the start line in their thousands and return to the finish line, 13.1 miles later, achieving personal goals and making a mark on the thousands who turn out to give their support. We’ll be there to cheer you on and help you in any way we can.

| || Arrive nice and early |
Remember that you’ll be in good company – nearly 15,000 of you will be setting off from Great Pulteney Street at 11am and the atmosphere in the runners’ village beforehand is great. Arrive early to have chance to soak it up. Many of our runners arrive at the village by 9am. Our help desk will be open from 8am. At 10am we will open the start pens and begin the task of getting you all into place ready for the start.
We urge all runners and their supporters to check transport services with their provider before they travel. If you’re driving we suggest that you use Park & Ride, getting their early, checking city centre car park locations in case Park and Ride is full when you arrive. Our Bath Half mobile site is now live. The mobile site address is http://raceday.bathhalf.co.uk/ or you can find the mobile site via our main site (when you arrive on our website you will be asked whether you would like to view the mobile version). We will also be updating our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages throughout the day and will post any important announcements on these pages and on our website and race day mobile site.

Please check that your race number matches the number on the front of the envelope and timing chip. If not please come to the information tent at the Runners’ Village at the weekend – Saturday from 10am-4pm and on Sunday from 8am. The IPICO timing chip that you have received records your race time – if you don’t wear it you won’t be recorded in the results. Tie the chip onto one shoe using the tags provided – see the diagram provided with it. Do not wear or carry your chip anywhere else or it may not work.
| || Keep warm at the start |
Check out the weather forecast on Saturday. It can be a little bit chilly as you wait for the start. We recommend you bring an old hoodie or jumper and wear it as you make you way from the runners’ village to the start pens. Please discard these at the side of the start pens as you go under starters orders. We recycle these old clothes for one of our race charities. Please don’t bring bin bags – they just go to landfill and have caused a few nasty trips in previous years.

The phones are always extremely busy in the days running up to the race. There will also be a little bit of down time as we move our office over to the Runners Village on Friday. If your race pack hasn’t arrived, please do not worry. Pop along to the Runner’s Village at the weekend to collect a substitute pack. The Information Tent is open on Saturday from 10am-4pm and on Sunday from 8am. Saturday will be less busy. There is no charge for substituting a race pack which is mislaid or damaged by Royal Mail.
If you have lost or damaged your original race pack, you’ve moved house or entered an incorrect postal address, or if you want to move forward to a faster start bay then you will need to collect a replacement race pack from our Information Tent at the weekend. Replacement race packs cost £15.00. Please bring cash or credit/debit card for payment.
| || Listen to your body |
The most important piece of advice we can give at this stage is to listen to your body. If you’re injured or are unwell (with a fever or vomiting or diarrhoea) 7-10 days before a race then you shouldn’t take part. This is always the hardest thing to say to runners, and it is the last thing that runners want to do, but it is a really important health message and one that should be taken seriously. If you are faced with this decision and decide to pull out then please let us know via our made using our ‘manage my registration’ feature on our website and return your race pack. We can then offer you a guaranteed place for 2018 at the discounted early bird rate – guaranteed until the end of August.

If you want to leave your kit in our baggage tent please tear off the detachable tag at the bottom of your race number and thread through the end handle of your bag. All baggage is left at the owners own risk and the organisers cannot be responsible for any loss or damage caused by the use of these facilities.

The digital clock on the finish gantry will show your provisional ‘gun’ finishing time. The IPICO timing chip on your shoe will automatically record your start and finish time as you pass over the timing mats on the start line. We aim to get all results onto our website on Sunday evening.
The finish line in the Bath Half is busier than the runway in an international airport, with over 150 runners crossing the line every minute at peak time! It essential we keep the finish area clear to avoid runners backing up across the line behind you, and to allow us space to identify and treat any runners who need medical attention. Please keep moving when you cross the line. We recommend that you pre-arrange to meet supporters and fellow competitors at one of the designated meeting points in the Runners Village.

With only a few days to go before the 2017 Vitality Bath Half Marathon we wanted to wish you all lots of luck for your final preparations and race day. To everyone who is running for Cancer Research UK – we’re so thrilled to have you as part of our team! We really appreciate your support and we just know that you’re going to have an amazing time!
We hope that you feel ready for your race and that your fundraising is going well. Don’t forget to promote your fundraising page in this last week to drum up some final support and even more motivation to cross the finish line. Enjoy your challenge and thank you so much for helping to beat cancer sooner. Together, we will cross the finish line.

We would like to wish everyone the best of luck taking part in the Vitality Bath Half on Sunday 12th March. We hope everyone is as excited as we are to be a part of this amazing event! Our friends at Lucozade Sport have recently launched their #MadeToMove social campaign which gives London Marathon runners the chance to win £1000 for their chosen charity by getting 10 of their friends to run 1 mile each!
