BATHALF entrants newsletter
With just 10 days to go until race day we’ve been watching runners battling through the unsettled weather pounding the streets of Bath getting final training and long runs under your belt before tapering ahead of the big day
We’re keeping a close eye on the weather forecast. The current showering and blustery weather looks likely to continue up to race day!
In the meantime we’ve got some important news to share with you about a couple of changes to drink stations and timing points, plus a pre-race massage offer from Bath College and an update on public transport
All the best
| || Eliminating single use plastic at the BATHALF |
This year we are encouraging runners to bring your own reusable water bottle to the event, your favourite bottle which you use during your training.
We will be providing a water refill point before the start in the Runners Village and at each of our three on course drink stations for runners wanting to carry and refill your own water bottles. These will be on tables at the far end of each station.
We are also replacing bottled water at the last of our three water stations, on Pulteney Road, with water in compostable paper cups.
We are also replacing bottled energy drink at our on-course energy station with HIGH5 Aqua Gel, and replacing bottled energy drink at the finish with HIGH5 recovery tabs in the goody bags.
This is the first step of our journey to remove single use plastic and bottled drinks at our event by 2021.
At the BATHALF we’ve always worked hard to improve the sustainability of our event. We have achieved recycling rates of 69-86% for each of the last 5 years. In the next couple of years we will be working with our runners, our suppliers, our volunteers and contractors to develop new processes and products to replace single use plastic
| || HIGH5 energy feed station relocated |
This year we’re moving our energy feed station to a new location around the halfway point – just after the 10km (6.5 miles) mark on the Lower Bristol Road
HIGH5 are providing their Energy Gel Aqua on the first lap, plus recovery tabs in the finishers’ goody bags

| || Travel update |
For race weekend travel arrangements, including trains, buses and parking, see our TRAVEL INFORMATION webpage
There will be engineering work between Bristol and Taunton on race day. For customers travelling to Bath from Bristol and Taunton it will mean a bus to Bristol Temple Meads for a train onwards to Bath. GWR are advising customers that journey times will be extended and recommending you allow extra time to get to the event
| || Tracking App and intermediate timing points |
This year we are introducing a free downloadable App which will allow supporters to track runners’ progress around the course and predict estimated finishing times using additional intermediate chip timing points at 5km, 10km, 15km and 20km.
This is a trial of new technology specifically designed to cope with the 2-lap course at the Bath Half, and dependent on availability of internet access.
Further details of the App will be circulated shortly.
Distance marker signs will also be displayed on the nearest lampost on the side of the road every mile and every 5km around the course. The first lap mile and 5km markers will be positioned on the left kerb as you run, and the second lap markers on the right kerb.
