The Bath Half is banishing plastic bottles thanks to a landmark partnership with Wessex Water.

Tap water refill points will be on location on the famous course for the first time in 2020, with Wessex Water bringing their HydroZone for runners to fill up reusable bottles. Water stations will also be supplying tap water in compostable cups for those who prefer not to run with a bottle.

Wessex Water are on a mission to reduce single-use plastics, installing water refill points throughout the region to encourage people to drink more tap water and avoid adding to the mountains of plastic that can take up to 1,000 years to degrade in landfill and are harming our environment.

The average person in the UK gets through 100 plastic water bottles every year. If just one in 10 of us refilled once a week there would be 340 million fewer bottles a year in circulation.

Based in Bath, Wessex Water provide water and sewerage services to 2.8 million customers and support a range of local events. They are the first UK water company to partner with a road race of this scale.

They are always well represented with runners in the race, and there is information about how to stay hydrated and more at https://www.wessexwater.co.uk/visit-and-learn/events

Part of the community

As well as keeping our taps running and toilets flushing, Wessex Water’s people are active in supporting the communities they serve. The majority of them are customers themselves, so this partnership makes perfect sense.

They work with the wider community to enhance the local environment, both through volunteering and a huge variety of funding projects.
