As the weeks tick by and race day approaches, joining a running group or club can really help keep you motivated and offer tips and knowledge as you prepare for the Bath Half. Running groups can also be a great way of meeting new friends and offer a safe running environment, especially when running on darker winter evenings.

Many groups do sessions for complete beginners, but for those just starting out the Couch to 5k programs are a tried and tested method to get well on your way to half marathon distance. The NHS do a fantastic program that you can take at your own pace.

Once you’re approaching that allusive 5k, check out your local Parkrun. The Bath Half Marathon are proud to have been among the original supporters when the Bath Parkrun set up in Bath, and it’s going strong. Parkruns are a completely free, timed 5k run held in 528 locations across the country at 9am every Saturday morning. You just need to download a barcode to record get your time and turn up. There is also a Junior Parkrun, held at 9am on a Sunday, with a 2k timed route for those with smaller legs! For more information click here

RUN TOGETHER GROUPS – ENGLAND ATHLETICS

RUN BATH
A new running group that meets at 10.30am on Sunday at the Sports Centre, for runs between 6 miles and 14 miles for people who are training for the Bath Half. More info

SWEATY BETTY RUNNING GROUP
Meeting on Monday’s at 6.15pm at the Sweaty Betty Shop in Bath. This women-only group, run byAngela McAusland, will be working on their Bath Half training plan from November. More info

JOHN MOORE SPORTS RUNNING GROUP
Meeting on Thursday’s at 7.15pm at the John Moore Sports Shop. This group, run by Bath Skyline parkrun co-founder Helen Conner, includes intervals, fartlek, hills, speed and socials. More info

PERPETUAL MOTION
Kerry Sutton is a Bath based UK Athletic run coach who takes run groups of all abilities. Join her on a Wednesday evening for free coaching between 6.30 and 7.30pm meeting at Lambridge Rugby ground. These are a mix of focused running training and strength and conditioning. More info

JUSTJOG RUNNING GROUP
JustJog women’s running clubs in Brislington and Frenchay aim to bring women together and help them reap the benefits of walking/jogging/running. The clubs achieve what they set out to do and bring women of all ages, backgrounds and abilities together in a social, fun environment which helps to improve women’s lives on all levels. More info

TEAM BATH ATHLETIC CLUB
TeamBath AC is an England Athletics affiliated club. It aims to have five different paced groups on the roads (winter) and off-road (summer) – including a beginner group. The groups are all supervised by experienced group leaders who know the routes, will help to maintain the correct pace and provide safety cover in case of accidents. More info

SOMER ATHLETIC CLUB
Somer AC is a multi-disciplined England Athletics affiliated club where anyone can train and compete for anything from track and field to cross-country, road racing and triathlon. More info
