Ilu Axé

Ilu Axé are a dynamic Samba-Reggae drumming and dance performance and teaching group based in Bristol, England.

Ilu is a drum and a rhythm, and Axé is positive energy. And that pretty much sums up what we do and who we are. We chose the name out of respect for Brazil’s African heritage.

Our music and moves come from Brazil’s original capital city, the magical and very special Salvador da Bahia, the birthplace of Samba. We mix the rhythms, dance and sometimes the songs of Samba-Reggae, Samba-Afro and Afoxé, with our own compositions, arrangements and choreography. What we do is funky North-East Brazilian style carnival music and dance.

Our philosophy is simple, we make it fun, we make it accessible and we make it dynamic.
